Social Traders Certification: What is it and why is it important?

You may have noticed a new badge floating around on our website recently.

We’re stoked to announce that we have been audited and approved for Social Traders Certification as a social enterprise. This means we can fly the Social Traders flag (display their logo) to tell our audience that we are officially doing a bit more than saying we care about people and the planet.

What is a Social Traders Certification?

Social Enterprises are purpose-driven businesses that are improving social objectives to benefit the community, the environment and local cultures. Having this certification highlights that a Social Enterprise is focused on creating a positive impact from the production to the output of their work. It means they have a clearly defined social, cultural or environmental purpose that benefits the community. Ultimately, it means their efforts and resources are invested into their purpose so that the public/community benefit is larger than a private one.

Why is a Social Traders Certification important?

It provides people with peace of mind knowing that they’re supporting a business that exists to create a fairer and more sustainable planet. Independent verification helps express a Social Enterprise’s social impact model:

  • Employment-generating: creates employment and training for marginalised people

  • Community need: meets community needs with accessible products that are unmet by the market

  • Profit redistribution: a minimum of 50% of their profits are donated to charity

Getting our Social Traders Certification has been a huge win for us. If you’re interested in getting one for your business, you can visit the Social Traders website. Alternatively, if you need help or advice on your application, get in touch with us.
